Canam Canada Incorporates Joist Girders into a 45-Degree-Inclined Building Frame |

(VILLE DE St. GEORGES, QC) — Canam Canada, the leading steel joist and construction product fabricator in Canada, supplied the joist girders and other components that went into building a gypsum powder warehouse at the Port of Montreal. The 7,000-square-meter (75,000-square-foot) project, featuring walls at an inclination angle of 45 degrees, was erected for CGC Inc., a manufacturer of building materials for wall panels and ceiling systems. This architecturally unique project posed a major challenge and called for a customized solution, which Canam Canada had the expertise and design flexibility to deliver.
“Our engineering, estimation and drafting team approached the customer for this complex project with an efficient solution, which was to include joist girders in the design of the inclined walls,” said engineering and drafting manager Sébastien Paré. “The fact that the girders are bolted to the concrete foundations ensures the stability of the building,” added Mr. Paré. The girders used in this project are, in some cases, more than 40 meters (130 feet) long.
Canam won the contract for this project from fabricator Acier Robel Inc. of St. Eustache. Canam fabricated more than 450 tons of joists, joist girders, purlins, girts and steel deck for the construction of this building.
