Honda Chooses Canam and Murox® for Its New Facility |

(BOUCHERVILLE, QC) – Canam and Murox®, two business units of Canam Group Inc. (TSX: CAM) specialized in the fabrication of joists and steel deck (Canam) and in the design, manufacture and marketing of high-performance building envelope systems (Murox®), have obtained contracts totaling over $5,500,000 for the supply of components that will be used in the construction of a Honda assembly plant.
This new facility, which will have a surface area of 320,000 square feet (29,700 m2), will be built in Alliston, Ontario, next to Honda’s two existing assembly plants. It is slated to open sometime in 2008.
Canam obtained two contracts in the scope of this project. The first, from steel fabricator Walters Inc. of Hamilton, Ontario, is for the fabrication of approximately 400 tons of joists and joist girders. A second contract, this one from steel fabricator Norak Steel Construction of Concord, Ontario, is for the fabrication of some 1,590 tons of steel trusses. These components will be fabricated at the Canam plant in Mississauga, Ontario, and deliveries will begin next April.
Murox® obtained a contract from general contractor Vanbots Construction Corporation of Markham, Ontario, for the manufacture and installation of close to 120,000 square feet of non load-bearing wall panels. Already familiar with the Murox® system, having used it both for the construction and expansion of its industrial complex in Alliston, management at Honda Canada once again opted for the Murox® system because of its quick and efficient installation.
Canam is the largest steel joist fabricator in Canada and the second largest in North America. Steel joists are joist girders that support the ceilings and floors of commercial and industrial buildings. Canam also fabricates and distributes steel deck.
