Steel was the solution chosen A Division of Canam Group Will Participate in the Rebuilding of the La Concorde and Deblois Overpasses in Laval

(BOUCHERVILLE, QC) – Structal-Bridges, the largest steel bridge manufacturer in Canada and a division of Canam Group Inc. (TSX: CAM), has secured a contract worth about $2 million from general contractor Construction Garnier Ltd. of Laval for the supply and field installation of structural steel, expansion joints and structural bearings for rebuilding the La Concorde and Deblois overpasses in Laval.

Robert Dutil, vice president and general manager of Structal-Bridges, is pleased that steel was the solution chosen for the reconstruction of these two overpasses and that Structal’s 220 or so employees will have the opportunity to lend their expertise to this project.

A total of 20 beams, each 150 feet in length and weighing about 25 tons, will be the principal elements of the new overpasses.

According to Mr. Dutil, the project will be fast-tracked to ensure that the overpasses are operational as soon as possible. Fabrication of the structural steel components will begin at the Quebec City plant in mid-February and is expected to take two months, with about 20 employees dedicated to this job. Installation of the components should be completed by the beginning of May 2007. The structural bearings and expansion joints will be fabricated at the Goodco Z-Tech plant, which was recently acquired by Structal-Bridges.

Structal-Bridges specializes in the fabrication of highway and railway bridges and has been operating a 20,900-square-meter plant in Quebec City since 1956. Structal is recognized for its know-how and the quality of its products across this country and beyond its borders.

In 2006, Structal-Bridges executed more than 100 projects in Canada and the U.S. Among the major projects it completed this past year was the supply and installation of 4,000 tons of structural steel for the construction of three overpasses for the Trans-Canada Highway project in New Brunswick. One of the ten or so projects Structal executed in Quebec included the expansion of the Île Charron bridge at the south entrance of the Louis-Hippolyte-Lafontaine Tunnel in Montreal.

Structal-Bridges is a division of Canam Group Inc., an industrial company operating 11 plants specialized in the design and fabrication of construction products and solutions. The company employs close to 3,000 people in Canada, the United States, Romania and India and has partnerships with companies in Mexico, France, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Russia.
