Structal-Bridges Secures a $30-Million Contract for the Construction of a Bridge Over Highway 25 |

(BOUCHERVILLE, QC) – Structal-Bridges, the largest steel bridge manufacturer in Canada and a division of Canam Group Inc. (TSX: CAM), has secured a $30-million contract from design-builder Kiewit-Parsons for the construction of a six-lane steel bridge over the Rivière des Prairies as well as three overpasses for the purpose of completing Highway 25 in Montreal.
The bridge will consist of a main cable-stayed span approximately 1,640 feet (500 m) long and steel plate girder approach spans approximately 2,230 feet (680 m) long. Each of the major components will be 12 feet (3.6 m) deep by 130 feet (40 m) long and weigh 80 tons. Fabrication will take place at the Quebec City plant.
Robert Dutil, Structal-Bridges’ vice president and general manager, is pleased that Structal won this contract, which provides compelling proof of its solid reputation across Canada as a leader in bridge design and construction. “In recent years, we’ve invested time and money in the acquisition of state-of-the-art equipment for our Quebec City plant so that it can handle projects of this magnitude,” says Mr. Dutil. “We’re proud to be a part of this significant undertaking for the region of Montreal.”
Structal-Bridges is a Canadian manufacturer of steel bridges, structural bearings and expansion joints. This division of Canam Group has been operating a 225,000-square-foot (20,900-m2) plant in Quebec City since 1956 and also runs a 35,000-square-foot (3,250-m2) plant in Laval and an 180,000-square-foot (16,800-m2) plant in eastern New Hampshire in the United States. Structal, which serves the highway and railway bridge sectors in Canada and several states in the U.S., currently has 310 employees.
