Canam Group to participate in the largest electric vehicle road trial in Canada
Canam Group is one of 13 Boucherville businesses that will soon be testing i-MiEV cars as part of the second phase of Hydro-Québec’s all-electric vehicle pilot project.
No one can be indifferent to the importance of protecting the environment. And for this reason, Canam Group is proud to be taking part in a project that contributes to lowering greenhouse gas emissions. It also takes pride in the fact that its participation is directly tied to one of its development goals, which is to assume a leadership role in the construction of energy-efficient buildings and the reduction of its ecological footprint.
As a participating business, Canam Group invited employees interested in test driving an electric vehicle, rent-free for one year, to put their names forward. The company submitted a list of candidates to Hydro-Québec, which finally announced its selection of Guillaume McInnes, a civil technician working out of the administration center in Boucherville. Guillaume will take delivery of his i-MiEV in June and will drive it for a 12-month period, renewable for two subsequent one-year terms.
As one of 15 test drivers, Guillaume will be required to log an average of 50 km per day with mixed highway and city driving. Two charging stations have already been installed, one in the parking lot of the administration center and the other at his home.
According to Hydro-Québec, the data collected from these test drivers will be used to study user charging habits and will also help Hydro-Québec plan the future public charging infrastructure.
This project ties in well with the Action Plan for Electric Vehicles recently unveiled by the Quebec government.
About the MiEV
i-MiEV, which stands for Mitsubishi Innovative Electric Vehicle, is based on the Japanese i-Car platform. It is an all-electric, highway-capable, charge-at-home, commuter car with zero tailpipe emissions. Capable of traveling 120 km on a single charge, Misubishi’s i-MiEV can be recharged in 6 hours using a 240-volt outlet.

Guillaume McInnes took time out from the information session organized by Hydro-Québec to pose next to an all-electric i-MiEV car.
