The Point of Rocks, MD, plant to build bridges for Structal-Bridges
With a solid backlog going into the next quarter and bright prospects for new orders in the U.S. infrastructure construction and rehabilitation market, Structal-Bridges will now be relying on the support of the Point of Rocks team. In fact, the Maryland-based plant is poised to fabricate steel components for its first bridge project slated for delivery in mid-September. This project involves the fabrication of seven girders, each 100 feet (30.4 m) long, for the Montville overpass in New Jersey, representing a total weight of 91.6 tons. In addition, Point of Rocks will fabricate the 400 tons of temporary steel originally to be produced at St. Gédéon, QC, for the Alexander Hamilton Bridge in New York.
This new collaboration with Point of Rocks will allow Structal to assess the plant’s ability to respond to the demanding requirements of the bridge construction industry. Structal, which already has a production facility in Claremont, New Hampshire, will strengthen its capabilities with an additional production site in Point of Rocks. Structal sees production operations in two states as a way to quickly boost its presence in the U.S. bridge market and bid on a greater number of U.S.-based projects which, under the Buy American Act, are only accessible to producers with a manufacturing presence in the United States.
