Biographical Notes

Pierre Gignac
Vice President, Engineering, Canam International

A graduate of Laval University with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Pierre Gignac began his career with Canam in Saint-Gédéon in 1978 as project engineer. He subsequently assumed the position of senior engineer. Mr. Gignac and his team of engineers were responsible for the design of steel joists, dealing with the constraints posed by geometries and loads, for numerous projects each year. He was also involved in the adaptation of a joist calculation computer program for personal computers.

Mr. Gignac spent three years in the United States (1987-1989), implementing best design and production practices across Canam Group's North American plants. Upon his return to Canada, Pierre Gignac joined Canam's newly formed structural steel team in Montreal led by Richard Vincent. During this period, he worked on such major projects as the office building at 1000 De la Gauchetière Street in Montreal, Sorevco's galvanization plant in Côteau du Lac and the Fleet Center in Boston. Between 1995 and 2002, he coordinated the design, drafting and fabrication of the structural steel and equipment produced for Canam's new plants in North America.

Since 2003, Mr. Gignac has been concentrating his efforts on special projects and certain products fabricated by Canam Group’s business units. He oversees the technical support provided to customers and engineers in connection with Canam products. Mr. Gignac participates in technical meetings held by the Steel Deck Institute in the United States and by the Canadian Sheet Steel Building Institute, and is occasionally invited as a lecturer for courses given by the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC). He is a member of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec.
