The longest joists ever used for a Murox project

Joists 180 feet (55 m) long went into the construction of an aircraft hangar at Auburn-Lewiston Airport in Auburn, Maine. Each joists were field-spliced in 3 equal sections to facilitate the transportation. For Murox, this project was marked by two firsts: the first aircraft hangar Murox has ever built in the U.S. and the longest joists ever used for a Murox load-bearing wall project.

The contract for this facility, covering a surface area of 27,400 square feet (2546 m2), was awarded to Murox by general contractor Hebert Construction, LLC. The hangar went from concept to completion in five months and was completed in early November. The Murox load-bearing wall panels and Canam joists were fabricated at the St. Gédéon de Beauce, QC, plant.

Lufthansa will be renting the new maintenance hangar from the Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport for a restoration project estimated to last 2-3 years.
