Goodco Z-Tech to construct its largest modular expansion joints to date
Goodco Z-Tech recently signed a contract with Cherubini Metal Works, through its distributor in Atlantic Canada Bird Stairs, to design and construct two large, Type LX-14 modular expansion joints.
These two 14-cell modular expansion joints, each 52.5 feet (16.2 m) long and weighing approximately 40 tons, will replace the existing joints on the A. Murray MacKay suspension bridge between Halifax and Dartmouth in Nova Scotia. They must allow a movement range of up to 4.4 feet (927 mm) at the serviceability limit state (SLS) and 3 feet (1343 mm) at the ultimate limit state (ULS).
The contract with Cherubini represents a formidable technical challenge at the engineering and construction stages and requires excellent teamwork and considerable ingenuity. What’s more, the joints must be supplied within a very tight schedule. This contract is evidence that the Goodco Z-Tech team has what it takes to handle a project of this magnitude.
Goodco Z-Tech will work closely with Buckland & Taylor, the consulting engineers retained for this project. This is the kind of project that will enable Goodco Z-Tech to consolidate its leadership position in the construction of modular expansion joints in Canada.
